Product Innovations

SuperHiJet

At MOTEK, ATN will present the new MUSASHI dosing system SuperHiJet.
It is suitable for high-viscosity media up to 1,000,000 mPas such as solder pastes, heat conducting pastes, epoxy and silicone adhesives. Even smallest quantities can be separated, i.e. dispensing with highest precision is possible. For example, solder pastes can achieve dot diameters of 300 µm or epoxy adhesives can achieve dot diameters of 250 µm.

A typical feature of the SuperHiJet is the active dispensing principle. Contrary to the passive dosing principle, where the material to be dosed is conveyed exclusively via the inlet pressure, the inlet pressure is only needed to convey the material to be dosed into the dosing chamber with the SuperHiJet from MUSAHSI. The material is then actively pushed out of the dosing chamber with a tappet and thrown onto the substrate. Thus, even highly viscous materials can be dosed very precisely.

The SuperHiJet is driven by a piezo actuator. A special feature of the SuperHiJet is that not only the frequency and valve opening time but also the complete movement of the plunger are parameterized with speeds and accelerations/decelerations, and can thus be optimally adapted to the material to be dosed. Frequencies up to 300 Hz are possible. The valve includes an integrated heater up to 80 °C. For HotMelt adhesives a special version with working temperatures up to 180 °C is also possible.
With the SuperHiJet MUSASHI completes the Jet valves for contactless dispensing and offers with AeroJet, CyberJet, SuperJet and now also SuperHiJet a comprehensive program for a variety of materials to be dispensed. Contact person is the ATN Automatisierungstechnik Niemeier GmH from Berlin.

Pick and place machine INOPLACER-DUOTo-Reel SMD production

Just in time for the MOTEK, ATN Produktionsstechnik Niemeier GmbH is presenting the new INOPLACER-DUO for SMD assembly and dosing. With the INOPLACER-DUO ATN continues the success story of the INOPLACER placement machines.

The new INOPLACER-DUO is derived from the IPA and brings a number of innovations and improvements. Optionally, a further feeder bank can be added, so that the feeder capacity can be increased by 20% compared to the IPA. With optimized placement head, double placement head and double portal, placement capacities of 16,000 components per hour can be achieved. The Vision-on-Fly cameras integrated in the axis system enable the time-optimized measurement of the components to be assembled without the detour via a fixed camera.
Precision axes with AC servo motors and measuring rulers allow 0201 components to be loaded. The placement area is 900x400 mm. With the new versions the precision dosing systems from MUSASHI are also available. The intelligent pressure-time-dispenser with quantity compensation allows the dispensing of solder paste and SMD adhesive in dots of 200 µm and larger. The AeroJet is the non-contact dispensing alternative. It enables a higher speed and dots of 500 µm. The new software INOSOFT 4.0 is compatible to the old versions, so that programs created with older versions can be used. Nevertheless, it brings some new features, such as the integration of the Super-SIGMA and AeroJet dispensers, 2 placement heads or 2 dispensers, simplified programming of the vision system and additional peripherals and feeder versions.

Thus the INOPLACER offers a number of innovations, but remains true to its history and takes into account compatibility with the older models of the INOPLACER family.

Reel-to-reel SMD manufacturing

ATN Automatisierungstechnik Niemeier GmbH has developed a new soldering system for Reel-To-Reel applications and simplifies the handling of the assemblies to be produced, especially if they are very small in size. Flexible foils or punched grids are suitable as substrates. The task is to mount electronic components on these substrates. The following process steps have to be implemented:

- Apply solder paste
- Place electronic components
- Reflow soldering

In classic production lines, the solder paste is usually applied by stencil printing. However, this is not possible with three-dimensional stamped grids. As dispensing of solder paste is too slow, the solder paste is placed precisely with the AeroJet from MUSASHI. The solder is supplied from standard cartridges. The paste is pressed into the dispensing chamber with uniform pressure.
There, a movable piston accelerates the paste and throws it through the nozzle onto the substrate, similar to an inkjet printer. The working distance can be several millimetres.
The INOPLACER from ATN is used for loading. The components are taken with a vacuum pipette from the opened pocket of the feed tape, measured in position above the camera and then accurately placed on the LeadFrame. The advantage of the INOPLACER is the Vision-on-Fly camera integrated in the axis system, i.e. the measurement takes place on the direct path to the placement position and directly in motion.
The reflow soldering is done with an IR infrared band radiator. This focuses the light of a rod lamp with an elliptical mirror on a soldering area of 200x4 mm. The polished mirror surfaces in the reflector are coated with gold to achieve optimum reflection properties for the short-wave infrared light.
