Processes are Becoming Even More Efficient

Personal exchange is immensely important for all areas of human communication and interaction with each other. This is the opinion of Ulrich Moser, head of marketing and sales coordination at IEF Werner GmbH in Furtwangen, Germany. Everyone involved is looking forward to Motek/Bondexpo in October 2021 as an on-site trade fair. After all, the industry has a lot to present because flexible, modular manufacturing systems, by means of which an ever greater variety of increasingly short-lived goods are produced, depend on efficient automation of assembly and handling processes.

As a core technology for traditional industrial production, how will assembly and handling technology change in the next few years?

In the future as well, assembly and handling technology will maintain – if not strengthen – its central position in industrial production. Flexible, modular manufacturing systems, by means of which an ever greater variety of increasingly short-lived goods are produced, depend on efficient automation of assembly and handling processes.

Which technological developments will have to be advanced to this end?

Technologies which make efficient use of resources and which contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of each individual product. It will also be necessary to strike a balance between efficiency and flexibility – in other words, to configure systems in a customised manner.

The world of production has experienced a significant transformation due to the development of lightweight robotics. Which development do you find especially impressive?

The convergence of IT and production issues into knowledge and information-based production optimisation makes it possible for all involved parties to design their processes even more efficiently.

To what extent has the pandemic situation changed industrial processes and routine daily production in your opinion? Will these be lasting changes which continue after the crisis?

Advancing digitalisation and corresponding IT infrastructures have made it possible to run many production-related processes in a distributed manner during the pandemic (for example working from home). In many cases, however, it has also become apparent that cooperation with a view to the actual systems and their components is essential for a targeted discussion.

Which measures or methods do you consider especially effective for reaching the goal of climate-neutral production?

As already discussed, various contributions can be made to this goal throughout the entire value chain – during design, production and use of the respective systems. Efficiency-oriented optimisation can play a major role in this respect, especially during operation.

Automation intelligence for production and assembly – you know Motek/Bondexpo as an outstanding, traditional B2B marketplace for the industrial automation sector. How important do you think an on-site event will be for exhibitors and expert visitors in the fall of 2021?

Insofar as the general pandemic situation permits it again, personal exchange is immensely important for all areas of human communication and interaction with each other. This applies not only to everyday personal life, but rather to routine professional life (B2B) as well.

IEF-Werner offers linear units with metal strip cover up through cleanroom class 1. Demands placed upon the cleanliness of linear units have increased significantly in recent years – especially for users in the pharmaceuticals and medical technology industries. IEF-Werner’s linear drives with metal strip cover are suitable for cleanrooms in accordance with ISO 14644 in classes 1 to 8. This has been certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation. (photo: IEF Werner)
