In-line convertible top measurement via 3-D strip light projector

The aim of the project is to be able to position a convertible top, which is handled by a robot, very precisely.
To achieve this goal, a permanent correction of the position of the robot head was developed. Tracking cameras and clever placement of locators such as edges or markings enable tracking. The locators represent different coordinate systems such as component, load carrier or a semi-finished product. The functions for permanent correction include calibration at the start of the process and the transformation of coordinates between the coordinate systems. The challenge here is the error propagation from one coordinate system to another, which depends on the angle between the coordinate systems. A second challenge is the tolerances of the measured values. Therefore, the central innovation is the permanent correction of the robot's travel path.
The advantage for customers is that precise positioning with robots is possible without lengthy calibration.
