Motek/Bondexpo 2024: Focus on Automation – Future-Proof and Efficient

Motek Internationale Fachmesse für Produktions- und Montageautomatisierung

Preparation for the 42nd Motek international trade fair for automation in production and assembly, along with the 17th Bondexpo international trade fair for bonding technology, is running at full bore. This year’s traditional meet for production automation experts, targeted at improving processes and making them more efficient, will take place from the 8th through the 11th of October, 2024.

Manufacturing companies are facing major challenges – the focus is on efficiency, cost-effectiveness and the conservation of resources, as well as compensating for the shortage of qualified personnel. During the course of a practice-oriented exchange of ideas in the customary, thematically focused working atmosphere, production automation specialists will discuss how manufacturing processes can be further improved at the time-tested industry platform offered by Motek/Bondexpo. The trade fair’s range of topics covers four main areas: 1) networked, smart production components and systems, 2) assembly assistance systems and workstation systems, 3) solutions for easy implementation and commissioning, and 4) object recognition and image processing for inline parts detection.

Working Trade Fair with a Clear-Cut, Consistent Thematic Structure

Motek/Bondexpo’s trade fair concept, which has been tried and tested for decades, is distinguished by its straightforward practical relevance, as well as the clarity and consistency of its topics. Assembly assistance systems include, for example, systems for manual and semi-automatic workstations, assisted picking and assembly, software-supported operator guidance, automatic bin-picking, collaborative work with cobots, robotics and automated parts feeding and discharge. In this regard, for instance, Assemblio’s software solution for the automated preparation of assembly instructions is likely to attract interest: the company based in Stuttgart is specialised in revolutionising assembly planning. The preparation of assembly instructions can be rendered simpler, faster and more efficient, and the consumption of resources can be reduced, through the use of automation and state-of-the-art technology. Assemblio will present the first SaaS solution (software as a service) for the automated preparation of assembly instructions at Motek 2024. Thanks to their software solution, Assemblio shortens a previously time-consuming process that often took days, weeks or even months to a few minutes or hours.

AI-Supported Preparation of Assembly Instructions in a Matter of Minutes

Unlike manual assembly planning which is cost-intensive, time-consuming and error-prone, Assemblio doesn’t use elaborately created screenshots which are transferred manually to MS Word, but instead uses AI to analyse and document 3D models of the respective assembly. The analysis results in an automatic determination of the assembly sequence, the assembly method, the assembly direction, assembly restrictions and more. All of this can be easily customised within the Assemblio Composer using drag-and-drop, and supplemented with annotations. Assembly instructions are prepared automatically and can be exported as a PDF file or video. With the help of a 3D visualisation tool, namely the Assemblio Smart Viewer, the respective assembly steps can be viewed at any time. Assembly instructions are prepared in just a few minutes – this saves valuable time which, for example, can be invested in new development projects or the consolidation of core competences. At the same time, the quality and accuracy of assembly planning processes and assembly instructions are improved, the error rate is reduced, the wasting of energy and resources is minimised and productivity is increased. Assemblio is designed for outstanding user-friendliness, as well as simple and intuitive operation, making it easy to use and accessible to everyone regardless of training levels. The technology itself was developed and tested at Fraunhofer IPA.

Assemblio is currently used in numerous sectors including the automotive industry, machinery manufacturing, automation technology and electronics production, as well as at research institutes such as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Fraunhofer Society. Assemblio is especially well-suited for manufacturing companies that want to optimise assembly planning and master the complexity of their products and product variants. Automation – Easy to Get Started, Easy to Implement, Shaping the Future

“This is just one example of how production automation experts can work even more economically and efficiently,” says Rainer Bachert, longstanding Motek/Bondexpo project manager at trade fair promoters P. E. Schall. “Motek/Bondexpo 2024 will demonstrate examples of practical manufacturing solutions in concrete terms. Anyone from the manufacturing industries looking to automate processes or functions and make them more efficient, regardless of the sector, will find the right components and solutions at Motek/Bondexpo. The traditional autumn event will pave new and interesting paths for the industry sector with regard to cost-effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility.”
