A somewhat different trade fair year 2020

The Motek would have started today at the Landesmesse Stuttgart with a comprehensive portfolio for “smart solutions for production and assembly”. Motek project managers Mr. Bachert and Mr. Döring would offer exhibitors and trade visitors from a wide range of manufacturing sectors the usual first-class service provided by the Schall trade fair company, and maintain and expand their customer relationships in the international atmosphere.

But due to the Corona-related cancellation of the fair, this is not possible. However, Schall acted quickly and set up Motek 2020 virtually to offer exhibiting companies a valuable and highly functional digital alternative.

In a challenging time, the Motek project managers give Schall’s marketing team an insight into the somewhat different trade fair year in a short interview.

Without the trade fair, what do you miss most in your day-to-day project work?

Rainer Bachert: “After months of preparing a trade show, the execution of the event is then the highlight of the project manager’s daily routine. From the delivery of exhibits from the exhibitors and completion of the exhibition stands to four days of hustle and bustle in the exhibition halls. That’s very much missing this year, and of course the personal contact with both long-time and first-time exhibitors.”

Mike Döring: “The personal contact with exhibitors and visitors, intensive discussions over a coffee to further develop the trade fair and to learn directly from the exhibitor how new trade fair ideas are received on the market.”

What opportunities do you see in Motek-Virtuell?

Rainer Bachert: “Despite the postponement of Motek 2020, the new digital marketplace offers exhibitors and interested parties concrete and comprehensive opportunities to use the unique diversity of solutions at Motek in a networked and structured manner. Motek virtual will continue to be present 24 hours 7 days a week as a complement to the physical trade fair.”

Mike Döring: “Motek-Virtuell is a useful addition to the real Motek, but will by no means replace it. But in the future, such hybrid offerings will be the norm.”

What would you be doing at Motek right now?

Mike Döring: “After months of planning, it is always an experience when numerous visitors flock to the trade fair and the stands. Furthermore, it’s always an experience when you walk through the halls and there theory turns into reality and you see if the various ideas also work on the surface.”

Rainer Bachert: “I agree with Mr. Döring on that.”

What are you particularly looking forward to next year at the 39th Motek?

Mike Döring: “To my exhibitors and visitors, I miss this everyday trade fair life alone with all its surprises and problems very much. The smell of a trade fair, etc.”

Rainer Bachert: “Here’s to a successful trade show event for exhibitors and visitors. The increasing virtuality awakens not least the longing for real conversations, interpersonal encounters, impressions and experiences.”

The 39th Motek, International Trade Fair for Production and Assembly Automation will take place together with its sister fair Bondexpo, International Trade Fair for Adhesive Bonding Technology from 05. – 08 October at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Center.
